After a piece is fully composed, I turn to technology for the organization and administrative side of things: Making charts, organizing rehearsals, emailing harsh MIDI demos to everyone while simultaneously watching Columbo in the background.

It’s always better to move at a steady pace than to try to do everything all at once. In addition, once the people you work with understand that you prioritize quality over quantity, they will respect you and value your time and dedication to your craft.

Jazz amps need to produce an absolutely crystal clear sound. While of course many jazz guitar players use a lot of gain, the most important attribute is that clear tone. The clarity of a solid state or combo amp might give you an edge. That said, tube amps tend to produce more internal noise, so you might have a difficult time achieving the specific guitar tone you want. On the other hand, solid state amps are usually a bit more “transparent” when it comes to signal.

“Joseph was a terrific mentor who provided extremely useful feedback for each assignment. The course was excellent… Soundfly courses are perhaps the best set of music courses I’ve ever taken!

Bartolomeo Campagnoli was born in Cento in 1751. His was a life devoted to study and to the violin, which he quite seriously pursued wherever he found himself; first in Bologna, then Modena, then Venice, then Padua, then Florence, then Rome. In all these cities, he’d sit and play with local orchestras. In 1776, he was hired by a bishop to come and live in Bavaria, where he was to create and organize the music for his local church. From there, he really became a full-time touring violinist all over Europe.

We asked five audio producers, engineers, and composers to tell us how they use Logic Pro specifically in their professional work. Check out their answers!

Mahea Lee is a classically trained pianist and composer who has a degree from a jazz school and leads an electro-pop band. Her greatest musical passion is lyrical songwriting, but she’s been known to write the occasional fugue. She graduated from Berklee College of Music, where she majored in Contemporary Writing and Production and minored in Music Theory. For more Mahea, check out Soundlfly’s course, The Improviser’s Toolkit.

Logic Pro X has a number of built-in templates based on genre which can be a helpful starting point but always feel free to customize to your own needs. As you continue working on different projects, you’ll naturally start making personalized templates to prep for sessions. And although each of which may require different demands in terms of instruments, effects, or amounts of inputs, you’ll be starting from a higher place than the ground.

Kickstarter says over 26,000 music projects have been funded through their service from the not so famous to the extremely famous such as Amanda Palmer. It’s also an option for DIY artists who don’t necessarily want to be tied to a record label or music publisher and you don’t have to sign away your rights in exchange for cash. But unless you have a loyal fanbase or are willing to commit yourself to a marketing and publicity campaign to draw attention to your project, the odds of success are variable. And while you can fund new projects, it’s not a platform for raising quick cash. [If you want to improve those odds, check out our free course, Crowdfunding for Musicians.]

I don’t need to tell you that podcasting has blown up again and with heavy-hitting content like This American Life, Serial, and Mark Maron’s WTF, to name a few, it’s easy to see why. Content is better than ever. But with an influx of great content and more listeners also comes a lot of crap and poorly produced podcasts in a saturated market.

It can be used across so many genres of music, shown below on Oskar Offermann’s track, “Find Yourself.” He uses the Space Echo on the vocals and it seems to also be used on a lot of the percussion.

He goes on: “And the next two notes on the hierarchy are E and G.” Those are the third and fifth notes of the C major scale, they make up the basis for the C major chord, and so they are of secondary importance.

To some local folks, Low Spirits is too “out-of-the-way,” which means it’s not really located near other bars. So once you’re there, you are probably there for the rest of the night — which, really, is a pretty damn good decision. This is the place to get stranded. It’s one of our favorite places to hear live music and grab a cocktail. You’ll be in great company with the bands that have jammed on the intimate stage at this venue. And when I say intimate, I mean being in the audience literally feels like being on the stage. The margaritas deserve an honorable mention, too.
